every day

upon waking

once the fog of our dreams has cleared

along with our vision

we must resolve

again

to drive the stake of goodness

into the entities that have been risen

wherever you are

whatever situation you’re in

it’s this resolution

that will give you the power to continue

you have to know that it can be done

you have to know that you can make a difference

and you do it

simply by accepting things

and getting on with it

take those first few moments

to remind yourself

of why you’re here

and what it is you’re doing

—muster the body of it

until it is strong enough

to move you with intention

and rise

if you can do this

if you can keep the feeling of it

consistent

and clear, underneath it all

—even as you spend your days

sifting through the debris

and minutia

and murk

of this mad, dysfunctional world

—even as you are battered

over years

by derision, and attack

and setbacks, and genuine, major failings

your hand will steady over time

it will weather, and grow stronger

and the stake

that breaks open the old systems

the stake

that each of us was born holding

will come to know

the insistent

pure

gentle rhythms

of the hammer it’s been given

and it will push deeper

into the rock

of the old edifice

of false desire

and wrong-headedness

probing

for the heart

it knows

is there
